Last Thursday evening Ashford Lions Club met at the Queen’s Head pub in Kingsnorth with the volunteer organisations that had assisted them with this year’s Santa’s Sleigh tour of the town.

The evening provided the opportunity to thank them for their support and to celebrate having raised over £ 5,000 for charity this year, which allows the Lions to support many National and local causes including the supply of food vouchers to local families at Christmas, and the local Food Bank.

Attending were representatives from  UpRising,  Hothfield, and  Bockhanger Youth Groups, Ashford Mediation, Find a Voice, East Kent Sands, HomeStart, as well as Sk8side, Motiv8 and  Ashford NCT who all received cheques in recognition of their efforts. Certificates were awarded to individual volunteers who had also helped support the sleigh.

In special recognition of Santa [ and at his personal request ], a donation in his name of £250 was made to MacMillan Nurses.

A small donation to the Firefighters Charity, recognised the support from  Ashford Fire Station for providing overnight parking and security for the sleigh.
