Ashford Lions Club was delighted to present a cheque for £100 to SOBS to contribute toward their excellent work supporting friends and relatives left behind after losing a loved one to suicide.

A bereavement by suicide is different from any other kind of bereavement, bringing feelings of self-reproach, social isolation, abandonment, shame and fear, which can be overwhelming.

SOBS  is a peer support group for Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide; recognising the unique experiences of everyone whose life has been affected by the loss of a loved one to suicide. They offer a non-judgmental, safe place where feelings and experiences can be shared and discussed with others who empathise with their situation. SOBS offer support regardless of how long it has been since the bereavement happened or what the relationship was with the person who died.  Suicide knows no social, ethnic, or cultural boundaries and neither do SOBS.

People are welcome to attend and share as much or as little of their experience as they are comfortable with.

Ashford Lions Club is pleased to contribute to this valuable local organisation for the second year.

For further information about local SOBS ring the national helpline on 0300 111 5065 or visit www.uk-sobs.org.uk.
